Return to School of Medicine

The University of Mississippi Medical Center has a daytime population of about 12,000 students, patients, visitors and employees. The complex includes the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions and Dentistry; Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences; and the 772–bed University Hospitals and Clinics, which is the clinical teaching site for all educational programs.

As the state’s only health sciences campus, UMC is a hub of health professional education, patient care and research. For two years, you’ll work and learn with the same kinds of professionals you will work with in the future. UMC prepares you as an essential member of the total health care team.

Campus life for students includes opportunities for participation in the wide range of extracurricular activities sponsored by the Associated Student Body including intramural sports and a variety of social events such as the annual Claus Ball. The new Norman C. Nelson Student Union has a full-sized racket ball court, fully equipped gym and areas for student activities.

Situated in the heart of Jackson, the Medical Center’s location lets students take full advantage of a variety of stimulating social and educational activities as well as an extensive bill in the visual and performing arts.

Recreational facilities for the city include a 30,000 acre reservoir, a short 15 minute drive from the Medical Center; tournament level public tennis courts and golf courses; and more than 900 acres of city parks and playgrounds. The Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, across the street from the Medical Center, the coliseum on the state fairgrounds, and the Smith-Wills Baseball Stadium all attract major sporting events.
