The mission of the Radiologic Technology program at The University of Mississippi Medical Center is to provide an educational experience in a scholarly environment to help students reach their highest potential in technical knowledge and clinical competency in Radiologic Technology.

The educational program in Radiologic Technology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center consists of a 24-month period of formal academic and clinical education for students seeking to become registered radiographers. Each new class begins in July. This program is administered by the Department of Radiology. 

Radiologic Technologists (radiographers) are highly skilled professionals qualified by education to perform imaging examinations, at the request of a physician, in various settings such as hospitals, health care facilities, physicians’ offices, mobile imaging companies, industrial plants, research centers, government agencies and in commercial sales and marketing.  With additional training and education, radiographers also perform computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sonography, nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), mammography, radiation oncology, and angiography/interventional exams.

Prospective members of this health profession should be resourceful, thorough, congenial, ambitious, and – most of all – willing to work cheerfully with the sick and disabled. Radiologic Technology requires a dependable personality with a mature and caring nature. Technical standards for the job content of Radiologic Technologists include various physical demands and communication skills. Employment opportunities are available nationwide as the constant growth in the field has created many new, exciting and challenging career opportunities. Salaries compare favorably with other allied health professions and vary according to the individual’s training and responsibility.
